Central Vietnam
Coastal city with pristine beaches, the Marble Mountains, and gateway to central Vietnam.
Da Nang is central Vietnam's beach city — a long stretch of white sand (My Khe Beach), the Marble Mountains, and the famous Golden Bridge held up by giant stone hands at Ba Na Hills. It's also the gateway to Hoi An (30 minutes) and Hue (1.5 hours over the Hai Van Pass).
My Khe Beach (China Beach) is the main strip — 30 km of fine white sand, gentle waves, and a line of seafood restaurants. It's the best beach in central Vietnam for swimming. Non Nuoc Beach at the south end is quieter. The beach is free and public.
Ba Na Hills is a hilltop resort complex 1,500m above sea level, reached by the world's longest cable car. The Golden Bridge (2018) — a 150m pedestrian bridge held up by two giant stone hands — is the Instagram icon. The complex also has a French village, an indoor amusement park, and a flower garden. Allow a full day; the cable car queues are long.
Five marble and limestone hills named after the five elements, 15 minutes south of the city. Climb to the caves, pagodas, and viewpoints — the Huyen Khong cave is the highlight. The base is a marble-carving village.
Mi Quang (turmeric noodles with pork, shrimp, and herbs) is Da Nang's signature dish. Banh xeo (crispy sizzling pancakes) and fresh seafood along the beachfront. The night market on the Han River bridge has street food and the famous fire-breathing dragon bridge show (weekends at 9pm).
Da Nang has an international airport with direct flights from Hanoi, HCMC, and several Asian cities. Grab is cheap. Best time: February–May (sunny, warm, low humidity). October–December is typhoon season with heavy rain.
