Meet up at your hotel early this morning, you will then be transfered a couple of hours out of Ho Chi Minh City to My Tho– the gateway of Mekong delta.
Today’s ride will lead you right into the heart of the rural Mekong. The cycling begins after the ferry journey across the Tien River at My Tho. The route takes you through narrow roads and lanes, past banana plantations, fields of sugar cane, through the lush green landscape of the delta, crossing rivers and canals by numerous, ubiquitous, fascinating ferries. A section of biking cuts off road onto gravel and dirt lanes, and weaves around hamlets, across water channels, and through quiet dense vegetation. This makes for superb biking.
A final ferry across the gaping expanse of Co Chien river leads us to Tra Vinh, a pretty tree lined town with a large population of ethnic Khmer.
A special ride today as much of the area is populated by Khmer people. The regional architecture is interesting and there are many Khmer temples to stop and admire en route. Cycle as much or as little as is preferred; the road is peaceful, narrow and very pretty all the way to Can Tho! Pedal to Ba Om Pond with its magnificent lotus flowers, and observe local women having their future predicted in the small temple nearby. En route, stop to visit a local Buddhist temple school if possible
Arrive finally at Can Tho, the Mekong's largest town located at the confluence of the Can Tho and Hau Giang rivers.
Get up early today to visit the Cai Rang floating market on a sampan. The boat ride will also take you through small canals where you can see the local life along the canals. You’ll have a chance to visit a local family that has been making rice noodles for more than 30 years. Don’t hesitate to try some steps of making rice noodles and enjoy crispy noodle pizza there. Finish the boat trip, take your bike and ride through small tracks. Stop at a fruit orchard to taste some of the succulent fruits of the Mekong Delta.
Escape the bustle of Ho Chi Minh City in favor of the tranquil Mekong Delta on a 2-day tour that provides a great introduction for first-time visitors. A guide takes care of planning activities, accommodation, and transfers so you don’t have to, and provides an insider’s perspective into the culture of southern Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh City, also known as Saigon and long considered as the Pearl of the Far East, is the most dizzying city of commerce and culture in Vietnam. A visit to Saigon is like an encounter with exotic delicious food, French colonial architecture and memories of Vietnam War. A state-run handicraft enterprise exports a wide range of products—including furniture, carpets, lacquer paintings, and other works of art—made largely from local materials and you will be shown a part of this attraction.
