From there, you’ll board a comfortable sleeper bus heading to Nghia Lo, a gateway to the northwest mountains. The ride takes about 5.5 hours through changing landscapes, giving you your first taste of rural Vietnam. Throughout the trip, our local guide will take great care of you, sharing fascinating stories and showing you the best of every place we visit.
11:30 AM: you’ll arrive in Nghia Lo, where your local guide will welcome you and take you for a relaxing lunch. It’s a good time to stretch your legs and enjoy a proper local-style meal before getting on the road again.
Early Afternoon, the adventure kicks off with a scenic motorbike ride to Tu Le (about 50 km). You can choose to drive your semi-automatic motorbike (with guide support) or ride pillion with a guide. As you make your way through valleys and hills, you'll pass vast rice fields, green tea hills, and glimpses of local Thai life. Arrive in Tu Le and check into your cozy homestay.
Late afternoon, set out on a 5 km trek to nearby ethnic villages. Walk through peaceful fields and stilt-house settlements to reach Lìm Phạ, a traditional Thai village set in a quiet valley of golden paddies. The trek is moderate, suitable for most fitness levels, and offers a deeper look into local life beyond the road. Later, return to the homestay for a well-earned dinner with traditional Thai dishes. You’ll sleep in a shared stilt house - authentic, simple, and atmospheric. Private rooms will be arranged upon request.
7:30 AM: After breakfast, gear up & hit the road for one of the most scenic stretches of the tour - the legendary Khau Pha Pass. This 32-kilometer mountain road is among the highest & most dramatic in Vietnam, weaving through clouds & cliffs with panoramic views of valleys and terraced rice fields below. The ride is a thrill in itself, especially during harvest season when the hills glow with gold. At the top of the pass, beyond soaking in the postcard-perfect views, you can: - Paragliding over the golden rice fields ($80/person): Take off from a nearby launch site & glide over Mu Cang Chai’s iconic terraces - a rare chance to see this UNESCO-recognized landscape from the sky. It's exhilarating, peaceful, and unforgettable for photography lovers & thrill-seekers alike.

Another optional activity to expand your experience here: - Beeswax batik workshop in La Pan Tan ($8/person): Learn the Hmong tradition of batik - drawing natural beeswax patterns on cloth before dyeing it in indigo. You'll create your textile souvenir & gain deeper insight into the heritage of this ethnic group. Later, Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant in La Pan Tan, a region known not just for its famous rice terraces but also for its strong Hmong identity and peaceful rural charm. The food is diverse, fresh, and satisfying, giving you the energy for an afternoon of exploration.
Early afternoon: Ride deeper into the mountains to reach Mam Xoi Hill (Rice Tray Hill) - one of Vietnam’s most iconic and most photographed rice terraces. From this viewpoint, you'll see layers of rice fields curved like a giant tray across the hillside. From here, ride along a mix of concrete and rugged dirt tracks toward Mu Cang Chai town. The road is remote and less traveled, passing through Cao Pha Valley, scenic ridgelines, and traditional villages. This is the kind of motorbike journey you won’t find on standard tourist routes. During the late harvest season, you join in everyday farming life, try harvesting rice by hand, lead a water buffalo through the fields, or chat with local farmers in the paddies. These spontaneous, grounded experiences offer a rare and genuine window into rural life that few travelers get to see.
Late Afternoon: Before reaching our homestay, make a refreshing stop at Mo Waterfall, a quiet cascade just 2 km from town. You can take a short walk, dip your feet in the cool water, or simply relax in the shade and soak up the peaceful sound of falling water - a perfect reset after a day of riding. Evening: Arrive in a Thai ethnic village and check into your homestay for the night. These traditional stilt houses are simple but welcoming, offering a window into a way of life that hasn’t changed much in generations. Take a walk through the village at dusk, meet friendly locals, and enjoy a hearty homemade dinner with regional dishes. It’s a peaceful, grounding end to an active and rewarding day.
7:30 AM: After breakfast and check-out, hop back on your motorbike for one last scenic ride through Cao Pha Valley, a tranquil stretch of countryside framed by terraced fields, misty peaks, and local farms. You’ll pass through Lìm Mông and Lìm Thái, two quiet ethnic villages known for their peaceful settings and traditional stilt houses. Take a relaxed 4 km trek through a bamboo forest, where tall green stalks filter the sunlight and the air feels fresh and cool.
Stop at the horseshoe-shaped rice field. This naturally curved terrace is one of the region’s most photogenic spots, especially when the rice is in full bloom. Later, return to Tu Le for lunch.
Ride back to Nghia Lo, where you’ll return the motorbike and part ways with your local guide. Then, board the sleeper bus for a smooth and restful trip back to Hanoi.
You’ll arrive in the evening around 8:00 PM, ending the adventure with a heart full of memories and the feeling of having truly experienced Vietnam off the beaten track.
